in the SAGEEP Cafe - or grab your lunch and head outside with colleagues.
For your convenience, boxed lunches and iced tea will be available
in the Conference Center. Or, if you're in the mood for a latte,
visit the Coffee Cart and purchase coffee beverages, soft drinks
or bottled water. Place your lunch order on the pre-registration
form based on the sandwich types offered - Turkey with Swiss on
a croissant, Ham with Swiss on whole wheat sub or Grilled Vegetable

Hot Topics
Poster Session
The SAGEEP Café in the Conference Center offers an alternative
for lunch and the Hot Topics session features posters on late breaking
discoveries, observations, and results too fresh to have been submitted
to the Technical Program and the Proceedings CD. This informal lunch
session is designed to provoke discussion and encourage feedback.
The Café and Hot Topics will be open at lunch time Monday
and Wednesday at the Conference Center. Sign up for the SAGEEP Café
lunch on the meeting registration site and submit Hot Topics poster
titles and authors (thats all thats required) to General
Chair Vic Labson (vlabson@usgs.gov).
SAGEEP customary standards apply, inappropriate papers, those lacking
scientific merit, or those with excessive commercial advertisement
are subject to rejection. Quality control is the authors responsibility.
Titles will be accepted until the space is full. While Hot Topics
are not part of the Technical Program and are not included in the
Proceedings, the authors and titles will be listed along with a
session summary in a future FastTIMES. Plan to join us for lunch
and share your newest work at hot topics@sageep.cafe.

EEGS Luncheon
- EEGS/Geonics Early Career Award Recipient
On Tuesday,
April 13, the 2010 recipient of the EEGS / Geonics annual Early
Career Award (ECA) will deliver the EEGS Luncheon talk. Adding to
the level of excitement at this year's luncheon is the fact that
the award recipient has not yet been announced - please join fellow
SAGEEP attendees to listen to the presentation and learn who has
been awarded the prestigious ECA for academic excellence that also
encourages research in near-surface geophysics. Register early,
limited space available.
SAGEEP Conference
Evening
Gather around the fireplace or take in the spectacular views of
the Ten Mile range, but don't miss the Conference evening at Keystone
Ranch, a 1930s ranch homestead that combines rustic elegance with
unique mountain dining. Includes roundtrip transportation, dinner,
wine and entertainment.
Full Day
Field Trip
Xcel
Energy will provide a one-hour tour of the Shoshone Hydroelectric
Plant located along the Colorado River outside of Glenwood Springs
in Glenwood Canyon. The hydroelectric plant, which began operation
in 1909, although relatively small with a production of up to 15
MW of electricity, carries one of the most senior water rights on
the Colorado River. Along the drive on I-70 to the Shoshone Plant,
participants can follow along published road logs that include geologic
points of interest as well as information on the Glenwood Canyon
highway project that won awards for its achievements in civil engineering
when it opened in 1992. After the Shoshone plant tour, the trip
will continue to Glenwood Springs where participants will ride the
scenic gondola-style Iron Mountain Tramway up to an elevation of
7,100 ft with panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains. Lunch is at
the top of the tram near the entrance to the caves, prior to the
70-minute guided, walking tour of Glenwood Caverns and Historic
Fairy Caves, including the most highly decorated room in Colorado.
After the return tram ride down the mountain, the trip will conclude
with the journey back to Keystone. Includes roundtrip transportation,
entrance fees to tours, and lunch. Please bring comfortable walking
shoes and suitable outerwear for springtime in the Rockies (changeable)
weather. (This tour has a limit on the number of registrants.)
Hospitality
Events
On Monday and Wednesday afternoons, a complimentary, one-hour hospitality
event with beer and snacks - otherwise known as the SAGEEP Beer
Bash - will be held in the Exhibits Hall (Colorado Rockies Ballroom).
Badges and appropriate ID will be required.
