Call for Session Proposals!
SAGEEP 2011 Session Proposals
Session Proposals for SAGEEP 2011 are now being accepted online. The deadline for all session proposals is Monday
September 13, 2010. Click here to view all approved Session Proposals.
Members of the near-surface geophysics community are invited to propose a session for the 2011 Symposium on the
Application of Geophysics to Engineering and Environmental Problems (SAGEEP) to be held in historic Charleston, South
Carolina, April 10-14. Session proposals must focus on scientific results and/or their applications. The Program
Committee will decline proposals that are considered to be too commercial, or have a focus other than scientific
results.
Session proposers may be contacted by the Technical Program Committee with a request to edit, modify, or combine
session content. The Technical Program Committee will consider proposals on a rolling basis, so conveners will be
notified of the status shortly after submission. Note: Session proposers may request poster or oral formats. The
Technical Program Committee will attempt to honor all requests, but may not be able to honor all requests for oral
sessions. Approved sessions will be displayed on the online Abstract Submission Site
(click here to submit an abstract).
Be sure to check back for more information and details as they are made available.

Guidelines for Proposing a Session
Submit the proposal online selecting one primary discipline category (see below list). You may also identify secondary discipline categories. These will be used by the organizing committee to help promote your session and to help avoid conflicts during the development of the technical program schedule.
Title and Description: The Session Title should be presented in upper and lower case letters; i.e., Mark the Dates of the Meeting on Your Calendar. The Session Description will be published and used to promote participation. The description may be edited by conference organizers before publication. Session Descriptions are limited to 300 words.
Convener Information: Each proposal must have at least two conveners but not more than four. E-mail, telephone, and a complete mailing address must be provided for each convener. Individuals listed as conveners must have agreed to be listed as a convener.
Author Invitations: Please do not extend author invitations (formal or informal) until after you receive notification that the proposal has been approved. Each session will then be allowed one formally-acknowledged Invited Author, who will be allowed an extended presentation time period at the beginning of your session. When considering to whom you should extend invitations to participate in your session, please be clear to explain the difference between a formal “Invited Author” and a broad invitation for others to participate in your session. Note: Conveners may NOT be an author (first author, presenting author, or otherwise) on the Invited Author submission to their session.
Session Approval: The Technical Program Committee will review all session proposals on an individual basis as they are received. Accepted sessions will be posted on the EEGS Web site, prior to and during the abstract submission period (Sept 17-Nov 19, 2010).
Convener Expectations: 1) Conveners are expected to actively promote their session and encourage participation through email, phone calls, and other means. 2) Conveners are expected to interact with interested authors by pointing them to the schedule and abstract requirements for the session; 3) Conveners are expected to participate in the review and acceptance process, including participation in the reviews for those authors who choose to submit an expanded; 4) conveners are expected to chair the session that they have proposed, attend the session chair meeting at the conference, and support the Best paper selection process. 5) After the abstract submission deadline (Nov 19, 2010), the Technical Program Committee will provide conveners with the exact number of oral and poster sessions they have been allotted for their session. Conveners will then receive instructions and access to assign and schedule the abstracts in their session(s). Conveners will receive approximately one week in mid-November to perform this task. It is critical and required that conveners will be able to complete this task within the allocated timeframe.
Online Abstract Submission Site Open Soon
New Procedure — The SAGEEP 2011 online abstract submission site will be open September 17, 2010
and abstracts will be due by November 19, 2010. Short, 300 words maximum, abstracts adhering
to a format template will be prescribed. Submission of an abstract will constitute a commitment
to attend the conference, and a $50 fee will be charged upon submission (applicable toward
conference registration). Abstracts will be reviewed for both scientific relevance and absence
of commercialism, and notices of acceptance or rejection will be sent in late 2010.
Authors will then have the option of submitting an expanded abstract, if they choose.
These optional expanded abstracts may range in length from a few pages to ten or more pages,
and will retain the format of previous SAGEEP proceedings They must be submitted by January
14, 2011, to be included in the abstract volume that will be distributed at the conference.
Please address any questions regarding these changes to the SAGEEP 2011 Technical Chair, Dr.
Gregory Baker (gbaker@tennessee.edu) or General Chair, Dr. William Doll (dollw@battelle.org).
